The shadow chancellor, George Osborne, has stated that the Prime Minister will saddle the next two generations with debt. Mr Osborne was critical of Mr Brown’s economic strategy and his attempt to stave off recession with an Old Labour style reckless spending spree. Mr Osborne attacked Mr Brown on the Today programme on the BBC.
Mr Osborne said that his plan was to freeze Council Tax, reduce tax for business, allow the Bank of England to reduce interest rates and that this was the sensible route to economic recovery. Mr Brown, on the other hand, said that a boost in spending, by the government, in order to promote economic growth, was the right and sensible thing to do.
