Gordon Brown has called for the new US president to show leadership with brave decisions over international financial reforms, by co-operating with a global effort to finance the world out of recession and a rejection of a retreat into protectionism.
Mr Brown stated that co-operation between the US and the rest of the world was vital if the international financial crisis was to be reversed. He also called for a bigger role in the running of the International Monetary Fund, for the Gulf states.
At the moment, Democratic hopeful, Barack Obama, is ahead in the race for the White House, but as history has shown, Republican John McCain could still pull off an upset. Whoever wins this week, Gordon Brown will be hoping for support for his global rescue plan.
