No debt management worries for Button…yet!

Despite taking a £5million pay cut this year, Jenson Button will have no debt management worries after securing the Formula 1 world championship.

At the start of the season Button and his team mates were told that there was no future for the team as they had lost their funding.

Parent company Honda, who owned the team at the time, had recently announced that they were bowing out of F1 due to financial difficulties.

Ross Brawn then took over with only three weeks until the start of the season’s first race in Australia.

Jenson Button then won the first race and won six of the first seven races, finally clinching the driver’s championship after almost ten years in the sport.

Estimates have been set that he could now earn in excess of £100m from sponsorships and endorsements alone – so it’s safe to say that he will not be having any debt problems… well not for the next few years anyway.

Ivan Cooper, Chairman at debt advice specialists Chiltern said: “We’ve seen that film stars, sports personalities and even royalty have run into debt management difficulties after amassing multi-million pound fortunes, so here’s hoping that Jenson employs someone to look after his money wisely and ensure he never needs to seek debt advice.”
